Arenas of the Maritime ProvincesGoogle API

Below is a little application of the Google API to find arena locations. If you simply want a listing of all the arenas, see my other page to this effect.

If you want to find an arena, simply scroll the list and click on the Arena name, it will then appear on the map. Or better yet, try out the search box: it filters the list in real time to speed up your search! Futher contextual information is provided at the bottom of the page (below the javascript applet).

About the Google API methodsome context

On my other page providing directions to the arenas of the Maritime provinces, I simply listed most of the relevant arena contact information along with links to Google Maps. I used a different approach on this page: embedding the Google Maps API and various of its widgets and controls.

The advantage in this approach is that it proves much quicker in finding contact information and directions to a given arena. Above, I have embeded a scrollable list of arenas (that can be sorted by city or by the name of the arena), GMap controls (you'll find those below the arena list) and a few other doodads to help locate arenas (as well as other points of geographical interest). Simply click on the name of an arena in the scrollable list and its location will be centered on the embedded GMap above (but again, it's easier to find an arena by using the search box: searched fields are the arena name, city and address).

One drawback is that the API uses different data sets (older and less precise) than the full blown Google Maps site. For that reason, I inserted hyperlinks for each arena to the Google Maps site (within the GMap2 info bubble).
