2008 | 2009 NB "AA" Juniorselite level ‘junior’ (14/15 year olds)

Caroline wears #8 in her first year with this team. The team is comprised of players from all around the province: Bathurst (1), Fredericton (1), Dieppe (4), Memramcook (2), Moncton (2), Kent South (4) and Shediac/Cap-Pelé (4).

At the Junior level, there is only one elite team in New Brunswick due to the small population and the limited number of girls playing the sport. The team will represent NB at the 2009 Tim Horton's Canadian Ringette Championships in Charlottetown from April 6 to 11, 2009.

Below are three team photos taken in the lobby of the Super8 motel in Charlottetown whil the NB Juniors were participating in the 2009 Tim Horton's Canadian Ringette Championships.

2009.02.15. SILVER at the AtlanticsTeam NB loses 5-1 in the Championship Final to Team NS

Team Nova Scotia seemed much better prepared and overpowered Team NB by a 5-1 score (4-0 after the first period). This followed up on their 3-1 victory over Team NB in the round robin portion of the 4 team tournament.

Team NB had earned a spot in the Finals by finishing 2nd by virtue of a 2 and 1 record (winning 7-5 over Team PEI and 11-1 over the Host team to go along with their 3-1 defeat to Team NS). Team NS finished first overall with a record of 3-0.

In a complete turnaround from previous years, Caroline's team has not yet defeated team NS this year (they have had at least 8 encounters thus far, one of them being a 4-4 tie at the Miramichi Invitational).

2009.01.25. CHAMPIONS, Dartmouth COL TournamentTeam NB captures the Belle Division

Caroline's team of Juniors (14/15 year olds) have entered the Dartmouth City of Lakes Tournament (COLT) in the Belle Divsion (16 to 18 year olds) because of their status as an elite team.

The NB Juniors started with a lopsided victory over the Fredericton Green Belles (11-0). In their second game, they overpowered Bedford by a 6-1 score. They faced Fredericton White in the final round-robin game and came away with an 8-1 victory. This left team NB in a 3 way tie for first place in the 7 team tournament, of which only two would advance to the championship final.

NB Jr AA, a strong Berwick Belle team and archrivals NS Jr AA finished tied atop the standings with identical 3 and 0 records. By virtue of their +19 and +17 goal differentials (to NS Jr AA's +16), team NB and Berwick faced off in the finals (note that a maximum +7 goal differential can be recorded for each game in ringette).

Berwick had a smaller squad (~10 players) but have several (5) players that line up for the NS Open AA team (including one player who is still with the Canada East U19 squad). Team NB finsished on top with an 8-6 score giving them their first tournament title of the year (Caroline had a +5 rating for the game).

2008.11.30. SILVER Medal3rd Miramichi Elite Invitational Tournament

Only 3 teams were entered in the Junior Division of the tournament: the NB, PEI and NS AA squads. Each team would play the others twice and the two top teams would face off for the Gold medal. NS and NB were both victorious twice over PEI. Team NB were beaten by team NS and then followed up with a tie. NS came away with the Gold in the Championship game.

In 6 encounters against the NS Jr AA team this year, team NB has only been able to muster a tie to go with 5 losses. There's work to be done if team NB wants to come away as Atlantic Champions again this year (February 13-15 2009 in Southeast NB).

2008.11.16. Nepean tournamentStrong showing by the NB Juniors

Needless to say, this was a very long bus ride (some would say longer for some than others).

We arrived in Nepean late Thursday night and the girls would only be playing at 11:15 AM the next day. The girls came out fairly strong in the first game and overtook Ottawa by a 5-4 score. Many of the girls had already faced members of the Ottawa squad in the finals of the Eastern Tweens two years earlier, in 2007. Ottawa would eventually make it to the finals only to lose the tournament Championship Game by a 3-2 score to Whitby.

Team NB then lost the next two games in somewhat lacklustre performances. They first lost to Gloucester (Gloucester's only win in the tournament) 9-5 (Friday 8:15 PM) and were overpowered by Whitby the next dany (12:00 PM) by a 4-1 score. In this latter game, the score remained close throughout even if Whitby outshot NB by a 58-11 margin. Karine was tremendous in goal as the Whitby squad were flawless in their passing and overall execution. A number of our girls had previously faced several of the Whiby girls in last year's (2008) Tween Easterns.

Had the NB Jr AA squad won either of those games, they would have made it to the Championship Game. In their last tournament game, team NB was victorious over West Ottawa by a 6-5 margin (Saturday, 10:00 PM).

The team finished in 4th place overall with a 2-2 record, 1 point behind 2nd and 3rd place finishers Ottawa and Nepean (Ottawa winning the tiebraker over Nepean to face Whitby in the finals).
